Getting started with VO2Coach (Coaches)
VO2Coach helps you plan training, monitor execution, and communicate with your athletes using a single, structured platform.
As a coach, your role in VO2Coach is to define the training strategy, provide clarity, and make informed adjustments based on real data.
This guide walks you through the initial setup and core workflows.
Step 1: Access your coach account
You will receive an invitation to VO2Coach as a coach.
Once invited:
- Open the invitation link
- Create your account
- Log in to the web app
If you don’t receive an invitation, contact the administrator of your team.
Step 2: Create or join a team
Training in VO2Coach is organized by teams.
As a coach, you can:
- Create a new team
- Join an existing team (if invited)
Teams allow you to:
- Manage athletes in one place
- Assign training plans
- Review activities and performance metrics
- Communicate efficiently
Step 3: Invite athletes
Once your team is set up:
- Invite athletes to your team
- Athletes create their accounts using the invitation link
- Athletes complete their profiles and connect their activity platforms
Tip: Ask athletes to complete their profile and integrations before assigning training plans.
Step 4: Review athlete profiles and zones
Before assigning training:
- Review athlete profiles (age, sport, experience)
- Review available training zones
- Check recent activity history (if available)
This ensures training plans are aligned with the athlete’s current level.
Step 5: Create and assign training plans
Training plans define the structure of your athlete’s training.
A training plan typically includes:
- Weekly structure
- Daily workouts
- Intensity targets (zones, pace, power, or effort)
- Coach notes and instructions
You can:
- Create plans manually
- Adjust plans over time
- Assign plans to individual athletes
Focus on clarity and consistency rather than complexity.
Step 6: Monitor execution and activities
As athletes complete workouts:
- Activities sync automatically (if connected)
- Manual activities appear immediately
For each activity, you can review:
- Execution vs planned workout
- Time in zones
- Key performance metrics
- Athlete comments or notes
This allows you to identify trends, not just individual results.
Step 7: Communicate and adjust
VO2Coach supports ongoing communication with athletes.
You can:
- Comment on activities
- Send messages or reminders
- Adjust upcoming workouts or plans
Use feedback to:
- Reinforce good execution
- Clarify expectations
- Adapt training when needed
Best practices for coaches
- Start simple, especially with new athletes
- Ensure athletes understand zones and targets
- Review trends weekly, not just single sessions
- Use comments to guide, not overload
- Adjust plans based on execution and feedback
VO2Coach works best as a decision-support tool, not an automation replacement.
Common issues
Athletes are not syncing activities
- Confirm their integrations are connected
- Ask them to sync recent activities manually if needed
Planned vs executed workouts differ
- Minor differences are expected
- Focus on effort and intent
- Use differences as coaching input, not errors
Too much data
- Decide which metrics matter for each athlete
- Keep feedback focused and actionable
What’s next?
- Invite and onboard your athletes
- Assign your first training plans
- Review execution after the first week
- Adjust based on real data
As the platform evolves, new features will support deeper insights and automation.
