Glossary
This glossary explains common terms and metrics used in VO2Coach.
Definitions are intentionally practical, not academic.
Not every metric applies to every athlete. Your coach will guide you on what matters most.
Training structure
Training Plan
A structured schedule that defines how training is organized over time (weeks and days). A plan contains multiple workouts.
Workout
A single training session within a training plan. A workout may include duration, intensity targets, and coach notes.
Zone
An intensity range used to guide training effort. Zones can be based on pace, speed, power, or heart rate, depending on the sport.
Time in Zones
The amount of time spent in each intensity zone during an activity. This helps evaluate whether a workout was executed as planned.
Activity & execution
Activity
A recorded training session, usually synced from an external platform or entered manually.
Planned vs Executed
A comparison between what was prescribed in the workout and what the athlete actually did. Small differences are normal.
Moving Time
The time during an activity when the athlete is actively moving, excluding pauses or stops.
Rest Time
The time during an activity when the athlete is not moving.
Performance metrics
Pace
Time required to cover a specific distance (e.g. minutes per kilometer or mile). Commonly used in running.
Speed
Distance covered per unit of time (e.g. km/h or m/s). Used across multiple sports.
Power
A measure of work output, typically expressed in watts. Commonly used in cycling and increasingly in running.
Heart Rate
The number of heartbeats per minute. Often used to estimate effort and physiological load.
Threshold
An estimated intensity level that separates sustainable effort from harder, more fatiguing effort. Often used to define training zones.
Threshold Pace / Speed / Power
The pace, speed, or power value associated with the athlete’s threshold.
VO₂max
An estimate of the maximum amount of oxygen an athlete can use during intense exercise. Used as a general indicator of aerobic capacity.
Load & trends
Training Load
A summary measure of how much stress training places on the athlete over time.
Acute Load
A short-term view of training load, usually reflecting recent training.
Chronic Load
A longer-term view of training load, representing fitness built over time.
Trend
A pattern observed over multiple activities or weeks. Trends are more important than individual sessions.
Coaching & feedback
Feedback
Comments or guidance provided by the coach based on activity review or training progress.
Adjustment
A change made to upcoming workouts or plans based on execution, feedback, or external factors.
Consistency
The ability to train regularly over time. Consistency is often more important than intensity.
Data & integrations
Integration
A connection between VO2Coach and an external platform (e.g. Garmin) used to sync activities automatically.
Sync
The process of importing activities from an external platform into VO2Coach.
Final note
This glossary will expand as VO2Coach evolves.
If a term is unclear or missing, your coach can clarify how it applies to your training.
